Craig Parry Photography highlights community, conservation and creativity on the world stage

Media outlets across the Northern Rivers (and the globe) have been celebrating the global success of Byron Bay-based ocean and wildlife photographer Craig Parry, whose breathtaking imagery continues to captivate audiences around the world.

Craig recently took out first place in the Human Connection: People and Planet Ocean category at the prestigious 2025 Ocean Photographer of the Year Awards in London. His powerful winning image — depicting the community’s emotional effort to rescue a stranded humpback whale at Seven Mile Beach — has been widely reported by regional outlets.

The extensive local and international coverage highlights not only Craig’s exceptional skill behind the lens, but also his ability to share environmental and community stories that reflect the compassion and resilience of the Northern Rivers region.

“It was incredible to watch how everyone came together over so many hours,” Craig told The Times News Group. “I never thought documenting that moment would lead to an international award — it’s pretty special.”

Rescuers from National Parks and Wildlife Service, Sea World, local vets and ORRCA worked tirelessly during the 15-hour rescue attempt — a moment of unity Craig captured with sensitivity and respect.

Craig’s win follows a series of international accolades, including the Wildlife category of the 2025 Alpha Awards for his photograph Curiosity in Antarctica, and collaborations with Tourism Australia on global campaigns.

As media continue to spotlight his achievements, Craig Parry stands as a proud ambassador for Northern Rivers creativity, demonstrating how regional artists and storytellers can make a powerful impact on the international stage. His work continues to inspire, reminding audiences of the deep connection between people, planet, and the ocean that sustains us all.
